Any absence shorter than this does not require a hiatus. Characters may not be hiatused if an AC strike was taken in the month prior. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;mdash; Characters hiatused for 2-4 ooc weeks will be exempt for 1 month of AC. A character must make AC the following month in order to stay in good standing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;mdash; Hiatused characters may be taken by the fog and disappear for the duration of the hiatus; those taken do not remember their time there. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;mdash; Dropped characters may either be taken by the fog or killed in an IC plot; this is the player's choice. Designed as a small, limited run game with a fixed ending in which characters may alter their own outcome, the game will rely heavily on the eerie and unsettling, and provide opportunities for all to investigate the mystery of what happened to Mathias Township… and what is happening to &lt;i&gt;them&lt;/i&gt;. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The game will require a strong investment on the part of players in order to succeed as envisioned. This is not a game for casual players, but rather for those who want to enjoy intensive character exploration and relationship building while really digging into the setting. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What’s the premise?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A tiny coastal town, abandoned and cut off from the rest of the world by an unearthly fog that allows none to pass. Strange storms that rain terror upon all caught in their path. Ominous portents of something approaching, the &lt;i&gt;reason&lt;/i&gt; the town was abandoned, and an inescapable fate that awaits unless answers are uncovered in what was left behind. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are there any touchy subjects we should be aware of?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This &lt;i&gt;is&lt;/i&gt; a horror game, so many common horror elements will be utilized throughout the game. These elements will &lt;i&gt;not&lt;/i&gt;, however, include body horror, insect horror, extreme gore, or harm to children or animals. Psychological horror will feature prominently, and thus may lead to discussion of or actions including violence against others or oneself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How will the plot work?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The plot of the game is structured as a series of events that occur &lt;i&gt;to&lt;/i&gt; and &lt;i&gt;around&lt;/i&gt; the characters. As this is a horror mystery game, the characters must work to understand what is happening and, if they can figure out how, affect those happenings. There are very few NPCs in the game, so characters must interact with each other and the setting in order to find the answers they seek.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What sort of events will there be?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be few "events" as found in traditional DWRP games. There will be weather occurrences and strange happenings that can't be explained, new locations uncovered through exploration or just dumb luck, and horrible circumstances brought about by poor decision-making. There will be no parties unless characters plan them themself &amp;mdash; there is little to celebrate when trapped in a place constantly trying to drive you insane.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Is this game in any way related to the &lt;i&gt;The Village&lt;/i&gt; movie?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Other than being one of the mod's favorite films, no! Inspiration for this game is heavily drawn from Call of Cthulhu, Stephen King, and a dozen other sources, but this game is not a direct adaptation of any of them. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;center&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;b&gt;&amp;mdash; ooc mechanics &amp;mdash; &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/center&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;About how long will this game last?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The game will last roughly 1 year, which will be six months in-game. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Is there a fixed ending?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes! There is a definite ending to the game that will occur regardless of character actions. What characters decide to do along the way will, however, influence a number of things leading up to this ending. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What’s the ratio of IC/OOC time?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Village operates on a 1:2 ratio. One day IC = two days OOC. This will allow players extra time to really dive into the setting and various game opportunities. However, there may be some instances, such as with certain time-intensive events, where the timeline will be stretched a little to provide more opportunity for players to fully engage without falling behind. But the structure of game is designed around this element and should hopefully lend itself to helping players make the transition from the traditional DWRP setup.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What time zone does the game use?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;US Eastern Time. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What is AC like?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;AC is 20 comments per month over 2-4 threads. Threads may be hosted in the game comm or a character's journal. Phonecall threads may be submitted, but dialogue-only "spam style" comments will only count for .5 points.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Can we use threads that started in another month for AC? What about using the same thread for more than one activity check?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Threads started in the previous month may be used for &lt;i&gt;half&lt;/i&gt; the monthly AC requirement, but only the comments from the AC month will count. A thread may only be used once for AC. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Can we take an AC strike?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, you may take a strike for a character who is not able to meet AC. In order to clear the strike, you must make 30 comments for AC in the following month. If the strike is not clear, your character will be removed from the game.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Is there an AC warning list?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will not be a warning list put together by the mod. Players are welcome to take this upon themselves when AC reminders are posted. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Do you have any other requirements outside of AC?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes! All characters must have a Permissions post posted somewhere on their journals &amp;mdash; these will be linked on the taken characters page. (HMD posts are not required.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Is there any restriction on violence/sexual content?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Threads with gratuitous violence or sexual content must be labeled as such. Threads involving non-consensual sex are not allowed, either in the game comms or on player journals in posts associated with the game. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How do you feel about playercest?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As a small game, characters controlled by the same player are bound to run into each other or at least know of each other, so it’s fine. Our only restriction here is that you can't use these threads for AC.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;center&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;b&gt;&amp;mdash; applications &amp;mdash; &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/center&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What kind of characters are appable?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Canon, canon AU, and original characters are all welcome. Malleable protagonists are appable provided they have enough canon history to meet application requirements. All characters must be humanoid, sentient, and able to fit inside a normal-sized building. All characters must be from a fictional canon source. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What kind of characters are NOT appable?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Historical and real life figures, fandom OCs, and fandom AU characters are not appable. CRAU characters are also not appable.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How much canon is needed for a character to be appable?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Al least half of your character's history and personality must be from a canon source. OCs are obviously exempt from this requirement but must meet other application criteria.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Do you allow doubles?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At this time, only one version of a character is allowed from any iteration of the canon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Can we re-app a character that was dropped?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you drop a character and want to return them to the game, you may do so, but you must wait at least one month from the month in which they were dropped. The character will remember their previous time in-game, unless for some reason you don't want them to; they will &lt;i&gt;not&lt;/i&gt; recall any time passing in their absence from Mathias Township.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you wish to app a character that was dropped by another player, you may do so in the next application cycle, no waiting period required. Your version of the character will not remember anything of the dropped version's time in-game. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Can we re-app after being swept?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, you may, with the same character or a different one. Players who have one character swept while retaining one character in-game must re-earn their second character spot in order to apply again. (See below for more info.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What's the rule on new canons?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A new canon or piece of a canon must be out for at least two weeks before you can app from it. Players should also be mindful of spoilers for at least one month after the new canon is released; warnings of spoilers are recommended out of consideration for other players who may not have immediate access to the content. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Is there a game cap?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, the game is currently capped at 40 characters. This may change later depending on game progress and mod capacity. Only 20 character slots are available during the opening of the game.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are there cast caps?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes. No more than &lt;u&gt;four&lt;/u&gt; characters from any version of a single canon are allowed. For Marvel and DC properties, this is divided between live action and other formats &amp;mdash; i.e., there will be 4 live action Marvel characters allowed and 4 non-live action Marvel characters allowed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How many characters can one player have in game?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Two maximum. &lt;i&gt;(See next question.)&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How many characters can one player app in the same month?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just one. Players may earn their second character slot after two successful AC rounds.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How many characters can we play from the same cast?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One. This applies to original characters as well.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Do you allow app challenges?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No, we do not. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Do you allow character reservations?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, reservations will be open for 2 days prior to applications opening. Reserves will be good for the first two days of applications and then expire. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How does the app cycle work?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Applications will be accepted every 2 months. This means that 1 month will pass ICly between new character arrivals. The application timetable looks like this:&lt;br /&gt;Days 1-2: Reserve period  &lt;br /&gt;Days 3-4: Applications open to all, reserves honored&lt;br /&gt;Days 5-6: Applications open to all, reserves expired&lt;br /&gt;Day 7: Applications close, feedback given to applicants&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How are apps processed?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Apps are reviewed by the mod and feedback or approvals will be given to all applicants at the same time following the close of the application period. The goal will be to finalize all decisions before characters arrive in-game. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are there character age limits?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Characters must be over the age of 16, both in physical appearance and mental capability. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Can my character bring a pet or items from their homeworld with them?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pets are not allowed, and only items on their person at the time they become lost are allowed in the game. This does not include weapons - all weapons on their person will be missing when they wake on the beach. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What about a "pet" that's part of the character’s soul?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For reasons that are Top Secret, this is also not allowed. If a character such as this is appable, the mod will discuss the matter with the player in question so they are able to adequately respond to the situation in-character. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are powers going to be nerfed in this game?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To an extent, yes. Characters should not retain any world-breaking abilities, nor any abilities that would make things Too Easy for them in the game, such as being able to cheat death, easily escape danger, or never be injured. The game is meant to be a challenge to these characters &amp;mdash; have fun with it. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you are unsure if a power should be nerfed or to what extent, ask! There will be a section in the application to propose power nerfs and you will receive feedback on your ideas. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How do revisions/rejections work?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Unless a character is wildly inappropriate for the setting, players will receive at least one round of feedback for app revisions before receiving a rejection. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;center&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;b&gt;&amp;mdash; ic mechanics &amp;mdash; &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/center&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What kind of setting does The Village have?&lt;/b&gt; &lt;br /&gt;Mathias Township is a small, town on the coast of what looks very much like Northeastern USA. The shore is rocky, the water and sky shades of grey, and everything always seems a bit damp. A dark green forest borders much of the town, though a thick fog often conceals even the trees &amp;mdash; be vigilant all who enter the fog, it's not often that anyone comes out. Only the town proper is available for exploration at first, though more areas may open up for short times should the fog recede.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are there seasons?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Perhaps.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What is the IC date?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Unknown at present.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Is there a network?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No. There is no network or internet-like connectivity in Mathias Township, nor is there cellphone service. Characters wishing to communicate with each other may use the landline phones located in most town buildings and residences. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How are language barriers dealt with?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Players may choose to have their characters mysteriously understand the others despite not knowing their language OR to play with the language barrier and communication problems. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are characters able to learn new spells or abilities in Mathias? Can they “level up” in any way?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Perhaps, though there may be consequences for doing so. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Do characters need to eat, drink, or sleep?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, bodily needs and functions are still as normal while characters are in Mathias. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How hard will characters need to work to survive?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Survival is not the issue - at least, not in the usual sense. Provisions are readily available to meet most human dietary needs, and many buildings are stable enough to serve as shelter from the hostile elements. What characters should be concerned with is preserving their own mental well-being, as the longer they reside in Mathias, the closer madness begins to creep… &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;center&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;big&gt;&lt;b&gt;&amp;mdash; deaths, drops, hiatus &amp;mdash; &lt;/b&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/big&gt;&lt;/center&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Can characters die? If so, what happens?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, they absolutely can. When a character dies, they will wake 1-5 days later, unscathed, on the beach with the memory of their death intact. The body that died will still, inexplicably, remain as a corpse that will need to be dealt with. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are there any consequences for repeated deaths?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes. With each death, characters will gain another Madness that will become a permanent feature of that character. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;What are the Madnesses?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To be announced after the first in-game death... &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How are hiatuses and drops dealt with IC?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hiatused characters are taken by the fog and disappear for the duration of the hiatus; characters do not remember their time there. Dropped characters may either be taken by the fog or killed in an IC plot; this is the player's choice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;How long can we hiatus a character?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A character may be hiatused for 2-4 weeks. Any absence shorter than this does not require a hiatus. Characters may not be hiatused if an AC strike was taken in the month prior. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Are hiatused characters exempt from AC?&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yes, characters hiatused for 2-4 weeks will be exempt for 1 month of AC.
